Five Views of a River in Autumn
Work no. 188
Five little poems composed by filtering notes out from Equinox Flower, an earlier piece for violin and piano. Written on one of the hottest days of that year, thinking of rain, autumnal weather in France, Cage's haiku pieces for piano, and Hiroshige. The weather in Moscow turned as I was finishing these pieces, and by the time I was doing the formatting of the score, it was raining – for the first time in weeks.
