This work is something of a construction set, or a puzzle box. It contains three pieces of music which, when combined in a single score, form two more: one for solo flute, and one for three flutes. There are some similarities between the latter and Inconstancy in the way melodies and textures turn back on themselves, but while the earlier work eventually collapses into itself, this piece expands, eventually becoming a shimmering cloud of sound.
