Two Gardens |
Work no. 231 | |
Paused...
A quieter, introspective version of the techniques from the piano work O Zaman, which directly preceded Two Gardens. The titles reflect my ongoing (as of July 2022) studies of the Turkish language and Islamic calligraphy. The first could be translated as "deserted", “lonely”, “alone”, or “abandoned”. The word is the same in Turkish and Persian. The second title means "sacrifice", but the root means “closeness”, so a direct translation could be "[achieving] closeness to God". The word was borrowed from Arabic. I use the Persian version, but it also appears in Turkish, Hebrew, and other languages. |
